Inclusion@Lloyd’s today launched their first report on diversity and inclusion (D&I) in the Lloyd’s market.

Entitled ‘Holding up the Mirror: Reflections on diversity and inclusion in the Lloyd’s market’, the report looks back at 2015, shining a spotlight on events and groups from around the market, including a review of the inaugural Dive In festival and its legacy. The full report is online here.

2015 was a year of awareness-raising, aimed at increasing understanding in the market of the business case for diverse and inclusive workplaces. “In an increasingly complex and competitive global insurance market, we need to do more as an industry to attract and retain world class talent in order to adapt and thrive,” says Dominic Christian, Chair of Inclusion@Lloyd’s and CEO of Aon UK.

New research commissioned by Inclusion@Lloyd’s establishes what diversity and inclusion practice looks like in the market today. “By establishing the starting point, we can gauge what resources are most needed to support our market’s evolution,” Dominic Christian explains.

Key findings include:

  • 5% of companies are aware of clients examining D&I practices as a supplier requirement
  • 5% of respondents believe that their organisations’ D&I culture is improving
  • But 65% do not have a dedicated Diversity and Inclusion Policy*

2016 promises to be a year of action as signatories of the Inclusion@Lloyd’s Diversity and Inclusion Charter make progress on their pledges to advance D&I in their organisations. Over half are planning to increase training on diversity and inclusion in 2016 and over 40% will be revising their recruitment policies to incorporate D&I.

As well as anonymised and aggregated results, the research includes six in-depth interviews with market HR executives who share their experiences and insights into implementing different aspects of D&I strategies.

The full research findings, analysis and interviews can be downloaded here.

*HR executives from 40 Lloyd’s market organisations who have signed the Inclusion@Lloyd’s Diversity and Inclusion Charter participated in the research.
