DIVE IN FESTIVAL 2022 TO FOCUS ON BUILDING BRAVER CULTURES

8th  global festival for diversity, equity and inclusion in insurance confirmed for 27 – 29 September 2022

  • This year’s festival will focus on the theme of ‘Building Braver Cultures’, calling on the insurance industry to build environments where people feel safe, valued, respected and free to express themselves
  • Building on recent success, the festival for diversity, equity and inclusion will take place virtually, allowing for worldwide participation to create positive global change

London, 26 April 2022: Taking place from the 27 to 29 September 2022, Dive In – the insurance industry’s well-established festival for diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) has been confirmed for its eighth consecutive year. Following the global success of last year’s festival, reaching its largest ever global audience, a record number of countries are expected to host virtual events this year.

Since its launch in 2015, Dive In has continued to grow in both numbers and geography. Last year the festival included a record 145 virtual events across 35 countries, reaching 31,067 people from 103 countries worldwide throughout the three days of the festival. This year attendees will once again be able to participate in virtual events all around the world, breaking down geographical barriers and creating a stronger global dialogue on diversity, equity and inclusion.

In previous years, the festival has explored how organisations can take decisive action to embrace a more diverse and inclusive workforce. The focus now, in 2022, is to build braver, psychologically safe work cultures – both on and offline – that truly allow people to feel safe, valued, respected and free to express themselves. This year’s important theme is about how diverse groups of people think and act in the workplace in response to the environments created by both colleagues and leadership. It calls on attendees to build working cultures where all people are recognised and empowered to speak and behave authentically.

In 2021, cricketing legend, Andrew Strauss, and former Prime Minister of Denmark, Helle Thorning-Schmidt, were among the 500+ speakers across the three-day festival. The seventh edition of Dive In was focused on the theme of Active Allyship, with topics ranging from mental health to neurodiversity, including ‘Call it Out – An Ally’s Toolbox’, an event that explored how we can confidently call out negative behaviour and language. Other worldwide highlights included CNBC anchor, Esther Awoniyi, hosting a panel in Nigeria discussing the generational and cultural obstacles faced by employees, particularly females in the workplace, and former television presenter, Anita Kapoor, hosting a conversation in Singapore on turning awareness around mental health into action. Detailed event reports are available on the Dive In festival website, along with videos from previous festivals, a summary of lessons learnt and top tips from our speakers.

Reflecting on the success of last year’s festival and plans for Dive In 2022, Head of Culture at Lloyd’s, Mark Lomas, says: “The festival has grown from strength to strength since its inception in 2015, with attendees joining us from around the world to discuss important issues on diversity, equity and inclusion. This year we’ve had record numbers of sponsors approach us to express interest in hosting an event at the festival, in what will be another truly global push for change.”

Group Head of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at BMS, and member of the Dive In Steering Committee, Louisa Erwin adds: “Dive In provides a pivotal platform for powerful conversations and debates around the most pressing topics within the industry and society as a whole. This year we aim to accelerate the creation of psychologically safe environments within our organisations, created by colleagues and leadership.”

The festival continues to count on the support of its Global Festival Partners.
